September Favorites

Hi everyone,

As today is the last day of the month I thought it would be the perfect time to do my September favorites. I have good mix this month, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have two favorites from my September BoxyCharm box, which I’ll link below if you haven’t read. The first Boxy favorite is the Huda Beauty Matte & Metal Melted Shadows in Private Jet & Shimmering Sunset. I’ve worn these in a couple different ways since getting them, and they’re both really pretty and versatile. The matte, Private Jet, is very velvety and dries down quickly. Color wise it’s a light pink but it had a lot of warmth to it. The metal, Shimmering Sunset, is a gorgeous shadow. I’ve used it as a liner and all over the lid and it works great in both applications and color wise it’s an amber/slightly rose gold.

My second Boxy favorite is the Alamar Cosmetics Spanglish Pressed Pigment Palette. I’m not going to talk too much about this palette here because I am doing a Three Recent Looks post with it. But what I will give you some of the basics. This palette has eight shadows, four mattes and four shimmers.

The shimmers in this palette are very shimmery. They have reflective pearls and fine glitters and the mattes are nicely pigmented. When I did my original swatching two of the mattes were a little powdery, but they blended out very nicely.

This is a great palette and if you want to have fun with color, then I would recommend it.

My last beauty favorite is a MAC lipstick in the shade 640, Red Rock. I bought this during the BoxyCharm Pop Up Sale and since my initial about it I’ve worn it quite a few times.

This lipstick has a matte finish, it’s highly pigmented and very creamy. Tone wise I would say that this is a classic red. MAC does red so well and this is a perfect example of that. This is going to be one of my go to lipsticks for the holidays.

Moving on, I have a couple of random favorites. The first is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Normally the 24 is held is June, but this year it was rescheduled to September and despite the fact that there were fewer cars in the field it was a very exciting and action packed race and I really enjoyed it.

My second random favorite is my sunflowers. My poor sunflowers went through a lot this year, they got eaten by slugs in their early stages of growing, although I did take care of the slug problem with copper tape, and just recently heavy rain and wind blew three of them over. But before that happened they all opened up and were so pretty.

And my last favorite is a music favorite, specifically the live stream concert Joe Bonamassa did at the Ryman Auditorium. With there being practically no live music this year it was really great to sit down and listen to some even if it was over a live stream. I think the setlist for the show was great, he played a few songs off of his upcoming album Royal Tea, out October 23rd, and some of his other classic and popular songs. I thought it was great and I can’t wait to listen to Royal Tea in full.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites this month let me know and if not I’d love to know what your favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great September :).

July Favorites

Hi everyone,

As it’s the end of the month I thought it would be the perfect time to do my July favorites. I have a pretty fun mix this month, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have a couple of favorites from my July BoxyCharm box and if you haven’t read that I’ll leave a link below. My first BoxyCharm favorite is the Clean Skin Club Vitamin C Brightening Booster. This has pineapple, watermelon and green tea extracts and it’s supposed to brighten your complexion, protect against UV damage and  help reduce signs of aging. I’ve been using this since I got it and I really like it. I can feel and see a difference in my skin. This also smells really good and it says on their website that it’s good for normal, oily, combination, dry and sensitive skin. So if you’re looking for a new element in your skincare routine I recommend this.

IMG_5859

My next Boxy favorite is the Ciate London Everyday Vacay Coconut Setting Spray. I cannot say enough good things about this, I love it. It’s infused with fresh coconut extract so you get that nice tropical, summery smell and has micro pearls so you get a glowy and dewy finish. It also comes out in a really fine mist and I prefer that in a setting spray. This dries down pretty fast and doesn’t leave you with a sticky or tacky feeling, it does lock in your makeup and the glow you get is enough that you can see it but it’s not over the top. I definitely recommend giving this a try if you haven’t.

IMG_5858

My last Boxy favorite is the Lavish Quick Color Switch Dry Brush Cleaner. This is a spongey brush cleaner that you swirl your brush on and it removes the pigment. I’ve been using this since I got it and I think it’s a great little tool to have. It picks up the pigment pretty quickly and basically does exactly what it says on the tin. I appreciate that this is easy to clean, you wash it with your favorite cleanser and let it dry before putting it back in the container.

IMG_5856

IMG_5857

And my last beauty favorite is my 4th of July makeup look. I did do a post all about this look and how I did it, which I’ll link below, but I had a lot of fun with this look and I’m really happy with how it turned out.

IMG_5784

Moving on I have a gardening favorite and it’s my sunflowers. Last summer I grew sunflowers for the first time, but when I got them they were starts and this year I decided I wanted to try and grow them from seed. I bought a packet of the heirloom sunflowers so when they bloom they should be multicolored, which I’m excited about. This year has been a little rough on them, in the beginning slugs really ate them and I was convinced they weren’t going to grow at all but I searched a ton of different gardening websites and they all recommended using copper tape which I did buy. Since putting the copper tape around my planter the slugs are gone and the sunflowers have really grown and I’m super happy with them.

IMG_5939

And my last favorite, a music favorite, is the reissue of Paul McCartney’s Flaming Pie album, this album has also been remastered. Although the massive reissue doesn’t come out in full until July 31st, there have been a few songs released already. Flaming Pie isn’t an album I’ve listened to a lot over the years, I know a small handful of the songs, but I’m excited about the reissue as a whole. There are different versions of the reissue you can get, the lavish collector’s edition includes five CDs, two DVDs and four LPs. The deluxe edition includes five CDs and two DVDs. You can also get individual editions in the form of three LPs, two LPs and two CDs. It will also be on Spotify and other streaming platforms. If you haven’t heard of the Flaming Pie album I would definitely recommend giving it a listen.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites this month let me know and if not I’d love to know what your favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great July :).

August Favorites

Hi everyone,

As it’s the end of the month, I thought it would be the perfect time to do my August favorites. I have a pretty good mix this month, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty I have two favorites from my August Sephora Play Box, and if you haven’t read that post I’ll link it below. The first Play favorite is the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base Priming Moisturizer. This is a product that you can use as a moisturizer and a primer, so I was instantly interested. I’ve used it a couple of times since getting it and I’ve used it as a primer. The first time I used it I wasn’t having the best skin day and nothing was really sitting right on my face, so I wasn’t loving it. But the times that I’ve used it since I have really liked it. It really helps to smooth your face so you have a solid base to start with and it locks in the makeup. It also has shea butter, vitamins B, C, E. It’s gluten free, vegan and is free of parabens, phthalates and sulfates SLS and SLES. I would definitely recommend giving this a try and I think it’s one of those products that’s worth the price.

AUSP2

My second Play favorite is the Algenist Genius Sleeping Collagen. I have been using this since I got it, and I can honestly say it has lived up to what I had heard about it. I put this on right before I go to bed and in the morning my skin feels really soft and it looks almost dewy and hydrated. This is a vegan collagen and it also has alguronic acid, ceramides and Mary Thistle. What it’s free of is pretty much everything, sulfates SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehydes, phthalates and the list goes on. This cream is on the more expensive side, but I think skincare is so important, especially when you find a product that works for you and you love, so in my opinion it’s worth it.

AUSP3

And my last beauty favorite is the Colourpop Lippie Stix in Slacker. I can’t even tell you how much I love this. I have a few of the Lippie Stix in different shades and finishes and this one is just so good. It’s a really gorgeous, really pigmented, nudey/light salmon color in a crème finish. This is really long wearing, it has vitamin E and shea butter, and the formulation is fantastic.

AUGF1

AUGF2

AUGF3

My next favorite is a food favorite and it’s kind of random. I had the opportunity recently to try pickled brussel sprouts, I love pickles and most pickled things, and brussel sprouts are one of my favorite vegetables. So I thought why not, and they were so good. There was that initial pickle flavor mixed with a sweet and sour flavor and a little bit of heat because there were chili flakes in the pickling liquid.

My next favorite is actually a sunflower update. I do these frequently on my Instagram, but I thought I would do an update here. I had the first one fully open the other day and since I took this picture, more have opened up and I’m so happy about it.

AUGF4

And my last favorite is a music favorite, Joe Bonamassa’s British Blues Explosion. I’ve been a fan of Joe for a while and this is one of my favorite things he’s done. Basically it’s him paying tribute to Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. Playing their songs in his style and it’s amazing. And it’s not just the super popular songs, but it’s the deep cuts like Cream’s SWLABR from the Disraeli Gears album which was an important album for Cream and later it was the B side to Sunshine of Your Love. And I love that he chose to play those songs. I highly recommend giving this a listen if you haven’t.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites let me know and if not I’d love to know what your favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great August :).

July Favorites

Hi everyone,

As it’s the end of the month, I thought today would be the perfect day to talk about my July favorites. I have an interesting mix this month, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have a couple of favorites from my July Sephora Play Box, I’ll of course link that post below if you haven’t read it. And my Play favorite is the Clinique Take The Day Off Makeup Remover for Lids, Lashes and Lips. You guys know how much I love this. I’ve been using it for ages and it not only takes off every stay proof, waterproof, long lasting bit of makeup, but it does so with a gentle formula so there’s no scrubbing or irritation.

JLSP2

Next up we have the Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayon in Glace. Again, this is something I’ve been using for a little while and it’s just so good. This particular shade is like a dusty mauve and it’s so pretty. These lip crayons are super pigmented and really long wearing. I have quite a few Bite Beauty products and honestly they’re all great. If you’ve never checked them out then I highly recommend doing so.

JLSP7

JLSP8

My last Play favorite is the Marc Jacobs Fragrances Daisy Love Eau So Sweet. This is a scent that I would describe as very summery. It’s floral, fruity and just a little bit sugary, which is perfect. This isn’t one of those perfumes that you have to worry about being completely faded by the end of the day, it wears well and lasts a long time. I definitely recommend smelling this if you haven’t and you get the chance.

JLSP9

My second to last beauty favorite is the Pantene Intense Rescue Shots. I received this first in my Walmart Beauty Box, link below, and in my Target Beauty Box later, link below. So I figured I would give it a try. I take pretty good care of my hair so I didn’t know if it would really do a lot, but I have to say that I’m impressed. You use this after you’ve shampooed and conditioned and you apply it from the middle of your hair to the ends. It’s purpose is to target any damage you may have and to help prevent split ends, what I’ve noticed is that the portion of my hair I applied it has been softer than normal and I quite like that.

WBB9

And my last beauty favorite is Aloe Vera. Earlier this month I was doing something I’m going to talk about later in this post, outside in the heat of the day, for a long period of time, and I got the worst sunburn I’ve had in a really long time. It was so red and so painful and using aloe absolutely saved me. It ended up not peeling and actually turned into a nice little tan.

My next favorite is a book and it’s Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. I talked about the show adaptation in my favorites last month and after watching and loving that I decided that I had to read the book. I absolutely loved it, it was so funny and now I fully understand why so many people have loved this book for so long. It’s just fantastic. I 1000% recommend reading it if you haven’t and watching the show because David Tennant and Michael Sheen are incredible and do an outstanding job of bringing the characters to life.

JLYF5

Moving on, my next favorite is my sunflowers and the planter box I built for them, aka the thing that caused my sunburn. Back in June a neighbor of mine told me she had some extra sunflower starts that she didn’t have a use for and I very happily took them off her hands. I knew that sunflowers like to root pretty deep and have space to grow so I decided to build my own planter box. It came out so good, I’m super happy with it and the sunflowers have been thriving since I put them in there. I have to give a shout out to my dad for helping me with this because my woodworking experience is limited.

JLYF1

JLYF2

JLYF3

JLYF4

And my last favorite is a music favorite. It’s the song Superstitious by Europe. I feel like Europe is a band that gets forgotten about/people don’t know has more songs than Final Countdown. But my discovering this song was totally random, it popped up in my recommended on YouTube and I’m glad I clicked because I really like it. I listen to a lot of music and this song has one of, in my opinion, the best guitar solos. It’s just so good. And I would definitely say to give this song a listen if you haven’t, it’s pretty great.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites this month let me know and if not I’d love to know what your July favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great July :).
