May 2022 Favorites

Hi everyone,

As it’s the last day of the month, I thought it would be the perfect time to do my May favorites. I had a busy month with a lot going on, so I didn’t try a whole lot of new/different things, but I think I have a nice little list so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have three favorites from my May BoxyCharm box and if you haven’t read that, I’ll link it below. My first Boxy favorite is the Item Beauty by Addison Rae Air Hug Concealer in 100. This is a medium to full coverage concealer with a lightweight formula. I was worried when I saw this because we’ve seen before that a lot of “influencer” or “celebrity” makeup lines, aren’t great but honestly I’m so impressed with this. The formulation is really nice, so when you apply it it basically glides on and blends into the skin without creasing. It also has a really nice, big doe foot applicator and I think that helps with the easy application. This now has a permanent spot in my makeup bag and I 100% recommend giving it a try if you haven’t.

My next beauty favorite is the V Kosmetik Creamy Liquid Velvet Lipstick in Bubbly. I really, really like this lipstick. It has a lightweight formula, it’s creamy and very longwearing. The color is also a major plus. It’s a gorgeous berry tone that I think is quite versatile. It would be nice in the fall/winter months but it also plays well to the spring/summer months. This my first introduction to V Kosmetik as it’s a new brand to BoxyCharm, but I’m really interested to see what other lipsticks and products in general, they have.

And my last beauty favorite is the Yensa Skin On Skin Beauty Sponge. This is a multi-functional sponge that guarantees skin like, streak free, full coverage. It’s paraben, sulfate, latex, phthalate and animal cruelty free. I thought that it felt a little bit harder than what I typically go for, but once it was wet, it softened up and was nice to use.

IMG_1425 (1)

Moving on, I have a racing favorite and it’s not just any race, it’s the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, the Indy 500. Once you have friends that are race car drivers it automatically makes all races more stressful but also more fun and exciting. And this year was incredible exciting. The USAF Thunderbirds did an incredible job, as always, with the flyover, Roger Penske and the Penske Corporation did a fantastic job putting on the first 500 with an almost full capacity crowd since the pandemic. The racing was top tier, everyone was on their game and the last couple laps were some of the most stressful I’ve watched in a while, but in a good way. I obviously have to congratulate Marcus Ericsson and Chip Ganassi Racing on their win, that’s so exciting. And I also want to say that I’m super proud of Tony Kanaan for his third place finish. If you guys watched the 500 this year I’d love to know what your favorite moment was.

And my last favorite isn’t a music favorite, but a podcast favorite. My podcast to be exact. I have talked about my podcast before, but we just rebranded! This will be the last name change, I promise, but we are now The Unlikely Motorsports Duo. This is the best, most representative name we’ve had and I’m so happy with it. We will at some point be changing our logo, we don’t know what we’re changing it to yet, but leave me comment with your thoughts and don’t forget to join us at https://www.twitch.tv/theunlikelymotorsportsduo for motorsports commentary!

IMG_1553

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites this month let me know and if not, I’d love to know what your May favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great May :).

March Favorites

Hi everyone,

As it’s the end of the month, I thought that today would be the perfect day to do my March favorites. I have a pretty good and fun mix of favorites this month, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have a couple of favorites from my March BoxyCharm box, and if you haven’t read that post I’ll link it down below. My first Boxy favorite is the Too Faced Damn Girl Mascara. This is one of those holy grail makeup items for me, it has a really nice and creamy formula that doesn’t smudge, run, transfer or flake. The brush is on the fluffier side and it really does a great job of coating all of your lashes. Plus you get a ton of volume and length without your lashes feeling heavy. This is a mascara I always recommend.

IMG_7545

IMG_7547

My next favorite is the Lime Crime Venus 3 Eyeshadow Palette. I wanted this palette when I saw the spoilers for the box and I’m so happy that I got it. This is an 8 pan palette with a shade range of lilac, rose gold, mauve and brown. There are also five different finishes, matte, foil, sparkly matte, sparkly metallic and metallic. I’ve been using this palette quite a bit and I have a 3 recent looks post coming on it. I don’t want to give away too much of my thoughts on it right now, but I will say that I definitely recommend giving this palette a try.

IMG_7542

IMG_7544

IMG_7554

IMG_7555

And my last beauty favorite is the Maven Beauty Rose Water Setting Spray. This is a product that I was slightly unsure about when I saw it because I really don’t like the essence of rose in beauty and skincare products, but I do love a good setting spray. After a few times of using it I can tell you that I do really like it. Once you spray it the smell dissipates pretty quickly and what you’re left with is makeup that it locked into place for up to 16 hours and won’t smudge.

IMG_7550

Moving on to more random favorites, I first have a fashion favorite and it’s a pair of shoes. It’s not just any pair of shoes though, these are the Hoka One One Cavu 3’s. I’ve been looking for a good workout/running shoe for a long time and hands down these are the best ones I’ve tried. They’re comfortable, supportive and they don’t give me shin splints, which is huge. These are a little more expensive, but the quality and comfort is worth every penny. I also have to thank Tony Kanaan for recommending Hoka, because I might not have found them otherwise.

IMG_7451

IMG_7538

My next favorite is a candy favorite and it’s the Hershey’s Cookies and Creme bar. Cookies and creme is one of my favorite flavor combos, and I’ve always liked the Hershey bars but they’ve been revamped and now have more cookie pieces which make it that much better. Definitely recommend.

IMG_7558

My second to last favorite is a racing favorite and it’s an event that took place last weekend, Funny Car Chaos. I watched the live stream of the race and it was so fun to see so many Funny Cars show up to qualify and race, every round was great, the races were close and it was a great event to watch.

And my last favorite is a music favorite. This month it’s Eric Clapton, in March I spend a lot of time listening to Eric because it’s his birthday month and while I listen to him regularly in general, but it’s definitely more in March.

That abut wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites let me know and if not I’d love to know what your March favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great March :).

September Favorites

Hi everyone,

As today is the last day of the month I thought it would be the perfect time to do my September favorites. I have good mix this month, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have two favorites from my September BoxyCharm box, which I’ll link below if you haven’t read. The first Boxy favorite is the Huda Beauty Matte & Metal Melted Shadows in Private Jet & Shimmering Sunset. I’ve worn these in a couple different ways since getting them, and they’re both really pretty and versatile. The matte, Private Jet, is very velvety and dries down quickly. Color wise it’s a light pink but it had a lot of warmth to it. The metal, Shimmering Sunset, is a gorgeous shadow. I’ve used it as a liner and all over the lid and it works great in both applications and color wise it’s an amber/slightly rose gold.

IMG_6349

IMG_6355

My second Boxy favorite is the Alamar Cosmetics Spanglish Pressed Pigment Palette. I’m not going to talk too much about this palette here because I am doing a Three Recent Looks post with it. But what I will give you some of the basics. This palette has eight shadows, four mattes and four shimmers.

IMG_6346

IMG_6348

The shimmers in this palette are very shimmery. They have reflective pearls and fine glitters and the mattes are nicely pigmented. When I did my original swatching two of the mattes were a little powdery, but they blended out very nicely.

IMG_6356

IMG_6357

This is a great palette and if you want to have fun with color, then I would recommend it.

My last beauty favorite is a MAC lipstick in the shade 640, Red Rock. I bought this during the BoxyCharm Pop Up Sale and since my initial about it I’ve worn it quite a few times.

IMG_6207

This lipstick has a matte finish, it’s highly pigmented and very creamy. Tone wise I would say that this is a classic red. MAC does red so well and this is a perfect example of that. This is going to be one of my go to lipsticks for the holidays.

IMG_6209

IMG_6210

Moving on, I have a couple of random favorites. The first is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Normally the 24 is held is June, but this year it was rescheduled to September and despite the fact that there were fewer cars in the field it was a very exciting and action packed race and I really enjoyed it.

My second random favorite is my sunflowers. My poor sunflowers went through a lot this year, they got eaten by slugs in their early stages of growing, although I did take care of the slug problem with copper tape, and just recently heavy rain and wind blew three of them over. But before that happened they all opened up and were so pretty.

IMG_6223

IMG_6226

And my last favorite is a music favorite, specifically the live stream concert Joe Bonamassa did at the Ryman Auditorium. With there being practically no live music this year it was really great to sit down and listen to some even if it was over a live stream. I think the setlist for the show was great, he played a few songs off of his upcoming album Royal Tea, out October 23rd, and some of his other classic and popular songs. I thought it was great and I can’t wait to listen to Royal Tea in full.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites this month let me know and if not I’d love to know what your favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great September :).

August Favorites

Hi everyone,

Happy Friday! Today, as it’s the end of the month, I thought it would be the perfect time to do my August favorites. I tried out quite a few things this month and I feel like I have a pretty good mix, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty I have a few favorites from my August BoxyCharm box, and if you haven’t read that I’ll link it below. My first Boxy favorite is the MineTan Body Skin Hydra Glow Sleep Serum. This has a triple action hyaluronic acid formula with time release technology so it moisturizes while you sleep and is supposed to give you glowing skin when you wake up. I really like this, it sinks in super quickly, my skin feels really soft and moisturized and I can see that it’s more glowy. I will say that the first time I went to use this the pump was broken, but I managed to MacGyver it and it works great now. If you’re looking for a new nighttime serum I would recommend giving this a try.

IMG_6082

My next Boxy favorite is the Elizabeth Mott Thank Me Later Eye Primer. I was interested to see how this would compare to my favorite eye primers, Too Faced and Pretty Vulgar, and it’s just as good. This is quick drying, dries down clear, is cruelty free and not only locks in your eyeshadow all day but enhances the shadow.

IMG_6083

My second to last Boxy favorite is from the Trestique Summer Glow + Go Set and it’s the Maldives Luminescent highlighter. This highlighter is so good. It’s a gorgeous champagney shade, buildable and has a fantastic glow. I’ve been using this under my brows and in the inner corner of my eyes as well and it works so perfectly everywhere you put it. I don’t always like a cream highlighter, but this one is really creamy and blends out nicely. Definitely recommend this if you’re in the market for a new highlighter.

IMG_6130

IMG_6131

IMG_6133

IMG_6132

My last Boxy favorite is the Clarins Lip Perfector in 03 Velvet Red. So this is a liquid lipstick with a moussey texture and a velvet finish. This is deep red in color but you can see it has some berry undertones. This feels really light on the lips, it’s long lasting and because of the shea butter it does leave your lips feeling hydrated. I wasn’t sure if I would really like the cushion applicator, but I do. It applies the product evenly and smoothly.

IMG_6084

IMG_6085

IMG_6090

And my last beauty favorite is two of the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks. I did a review of two of the liquid matte mini sets, Au Naturel Nudes and Blushed Nudes, so I have a favorite from each. The first is from Au Naturel Nudes and it’s Sugar Mama. This is a peachy nude and it’s definitely true peach in color.

IMG_6001

IMG_6002

IMG_6024

My favorite from the Blushed Nudes set is Muse. This is so pretty, it’s deep rose in color and it looks so pretty on.

IMG_6014

IMG_6015

IMG_6021

Moving on I have a racing favorite and it’s the Indy 500. This year the 500 was very different than years past, but it was still super fun to watch and action packed. The USAF Thunderbirds did the flyover, Roger Penske gave the “Start Your Engines” command, there were great battles for position and ultimately Takuma Sato took home the victory, so huge congrats to him.

And my last favorite is a music favorite. It’s my Summer Rewind playlist that Spotify put together for me. It has a good mix of my favorite songs, specifically those I’ve been loving during the summer months and I’m enjoying it.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites this month let me know and if not I’d love to know what your August favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great August :).

June Favorites

Hi everyone,

As it’s the last day of the month, I thought today would be the perfect time to do my June favorites. There were so many things I tried and liked this month, but didn’t include because I have them set aside for other posts. I do think I still have a pretty good mix though, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have a few favorites from my June BoxyCharm box, and if you haven’t read that post I’ll link it. My first Boxy favorite is the Touch In Sol Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm. This is a very hydrating primer that leaves your skin super smooth and gives you a lasting glow. I like that it’s enough of a glow that you can see it under foundation but it’s not too much. If you want more of a glow you can apply multiple layers of it to build it up. It also sinks in to the skin pretty quickly and it smells really good.

IMG_5650

IMG_5651

My next Boxy favorite is the Artist Couture Diamond Glow Powder in Coco Bling. This is a loose highlighting powder that has a good amount of shimmer and pigment. This comes in a bunch of different shades, but Coco Bling is a light silver. I find this to be great for face and body and it’s very buildable. I don’t have any other highlighters in this shade or tone, so I’m really enjoying this.

IMG_5658

IMG_5659

IMG_5660

My last Boxy favorite is the Beauty Vaulte Circadian Lip Liner Trio. I really like these. I’ve worn all three of them as liners and as all over lip colors, they go on really smooth and creamy and they have great staying power.

IMG_5661

The first one we have is Kozy Kira and it’s a nice medium brown, this is a brown shade that I didn’t already have as a liner, and I’m glad I do now because it goes with so many of my brown lipsticks.

IMG_5662

IMG_5665

Then we have Beau Babe and this is a rusty brown. This is a perfect match for the Too Faced Gingerbread Man Melted Matte Lipstick.

IMG_5663

IMG_5666

Then we have Natty Nat. This is a deep red and it’s a really good red, I like it a lot.

IMG_5664

IMG_5667

And my last beauty favorite is the e.l.f. Bite Size palette in Cream & Sugar. This has a nice range of light to dark neutral mattes and shimmers. These are colors I tend to gravitate towards when doing a neutral look and I’ve already gotten a lot of use out of it.

IMG_5672

IMG_5673

IMG_5678

Moving on I have a couple of fashion favorites. The first is a black and white American flag shirt from Tactical Pro Supply. I always buy myself new America gear, so I have options not only for July 4th, but for any time of the year. Tactical Pro Supply is a veteran owned company who donates a portion of their proceeds to a charity that’s important to them and I really like that. This shirt in particular is black with a white flag on the back that’s sitting in a cool way, a flag on the right arm and an eagle on the left side on the front.

IMG_5716

IMG_5720

My second fashion favorite is a Team Penske hoodie. Now that racing is slowly but surely starting back up, I thought it was time to treat myself to some new gear. I’m always rooting for the Penske cars in IndyCar and IMSA, and I have so much respect for Roger, I mean he’s The Captain for a reason. But I didn’t have gear to support, so I went to the website and found quite a few things that I’ll probably go back and purchase at some point, but I liked this hoodie a lot. It’s dark grey with the red line and ‘Team Penske’ written in white. It’s so soft on the inside and it keeps me warm and cozy but it’s also really light so I can wear it all year. Additionally it has the holes for your thumbs, which I like.

IMG_5626

And my last favorite is a music favorite and it’s Let Me Love You Baby by B.B. King and Eric Clapton. This is the second previously unreleased song from their album Riding With The King. This song is straight up two blues masters doing what they do best and it’s just so good. I highly recommend giving it a listen if you haven’t heard it.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites this month let me know and if not I’d love to know what your June favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great June :).

January Favorites

Hi everyone,

Today, as it’s the end of the month, I thought it would be the perfect time to do my January favorites. This month has been really busy, which I love, but at the same time feels like it’s been 79 years long. But within all of that I’ve collected a good group of favorites, so let’s get into it.

Starting with beauty, I have a couple of favorites from this month’s Sephora Play Box. I will link that down below if you haven’t read it. My first Play favorite is the Kat Von D Beauty, who have rebranded themselves as KVD Vegan Beauty, Tattoo Liner in Trooper. I talk about this liner all the time, I love it. It’s really precise, it lasts all day and it doesn’t smudge. It’s just so good.

My other Play favorite is the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask. I’ve been using this for a little while and my hair loves it. This helps to prevent future damage, restores moisture and creates vibrancy. I take pretty good care of my hair already, but I love a good hair mask and I can tell the difference when I use this one.

Moving on, my next beauty favorite is the Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter in Molten Rose Gold. I am always on the lookout for a great highlighter and this one has been raved about for a while now, so I thought I would try it. I’m so happy I did because it’s fantastic. It’s the perfect rose gold shade, it’s buildable and the shine you get when the light hits it is so nice. They do make this in three other colors that I do want to look at, but if you’re looking for a drugstore highlighter I highly recommend this one.

My second to last beauty favorite is the makeup I did on my birthday. I wanted to do something really fun and a little extra because if you can’t be extra on your birthday then when can you. So I went with a gold sparkly eye and a bold lip and I love the way it turned out.

And my last beauty favorite is the e.l.f. Cosmetics Haute Chocolate Eyes Sugar palette. I did a post all about this palette, which I’ll link below, and since then I’ve been playing around with it and creating some fun looks. It’s a solid palette.

EP3

Moving on, I have a food favorite and it’s cinnamon rolls. Every year on my birthday, for my actual birthday my mom makes me cinnamon rolls and they are some of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve had. I don’t know her recipe, I need to get it from her, but they’re so well balanced and it’s everything you want in a cinnamon roll without it being too sweet.

My second to last favorite is the Rolex 24. The Rolex 24 is the first race of the IMSA season, it’s always exciting and this year was no different. There were a lot of moves with teams, drivers and cars made in the off season so I was really interested to see how it was going to play out. I can honestly say it looks like it’s going to be an exciting season and I of course want to congratulate the Rolex 24 winners.

And my last favorite is a music favorite, the blues. This is a really broad thing to say and I listen to the blues a lot anyway, but this month has been filled with a lot of rain and crap weather that it’s been very fitting. My Joe Bonamassa playlist has gotten extra use this month.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we had any of the same favorites let me know and if not I’d love to know what your favorites were.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great January :).
