May favorites

Hi everyone,

As this month is almost over, where did the time go, I wanted to do my May favorites.  This month I think I got a pretty good mix, so let’s get into it. Starting off with beauty, we have a couple of items from my May Glam Bag from Ipsy and if you haven’t read that post, I’ll link it below. The first is the Jelly Pong Pong Supercharged Super Intense eyeshadow duo in Electric. The first time I wore this I used both colors and blended them and it was very pretty, but since then I’ve worn them on their own and I really like both colors. I definitely recommend it.

Next up we have the Pixi by Petra Endless Silky eye pen in BlackNoir. I always like to try different eyeliner because you never know what you’re going to like and what’s going to work for you and this really went to the top for me. It is really silky and smooth when you apply it and it lasts all day.

My next favorite is the Urban Decay Afterglow 8 hour powder highlighter in Sin. I always talk about how much I love Urban Decay and this highlighter makes me love them even more. It’s in a champagne shade and it does wonders. It’s really glowy and it’s long lasting. If you’re looking for a new highlighter definitely give this one a try.

My last Glam Bag favorite is the Caked Makeup Lip Fondant in Low Key. This is a gorgeous color and it lasts all day, but beyond that it smells like cake batter. Like actually, and it’s fantastic. No matter what I want to buy more of their Lip Fondants, but if they all smell like cake batter that will make it even better.

And my last beauty favorite is the Bath and Body Works Cucumber Melon shower gel. I’ve always really liked this shower gel, it’s summery and it makes my skin feel nourished. I just ordered another one because I’m down to the last couple drops in my current bottle.

Moving to I guess kitchen items, I have two favorites. The first is the Mr. Coffee 3-Quart Iced Tea Maker. I had this iced tea maker for absolute ages, I really liked it and got a lot of use out of it. And when it finally quit on me I had to order another one. It’s getting to that time of the year where the weather is gorgeous and a lot of outdoor parties are happening, and iced tea is a popular drink. So I think you can get this in three colors, but I bought mine in blue and I’ll leave a link to it below.

The next item is the Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven. I had been wanting a dutch oven for ages because there’s so many uses and you can cook so many different dishes in them. My sister has one and wanted another for her birthday, and after seeing the one my mom bought her I knew this was the one I wanted. I bought the Caribbean Blue, 6 quart. But you can get different colors and quart sizes and I’ll link that below as well.

Next I have two TV show favorites. the first I know I am incredibly late to the party on, but it’s Sherlock. I was told forever that I should watch Sherlock and I never did, but recently I was looking for something to watch on Netflix and came across it. I watched the first three seasons in a couple of days. I honestly really love it. The fourth season was just added to Netflix, and I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. So if you have watched season four no spoilers please.

And my second favorite TV show this month is on History channel. It’s called JFK Declassified: Tracking Oswald. Basically a retired CIA agent, like a lot of people, was never satisfied with what came out of the Warren Commission report and since over 2 million documents about the JFK assassination have been declassified and released he wanted to do his own investigation. I am a huge history nerd and things like this really fascinate me. I don’t have as much information on this as I do other things throughout history, but this has more conspiracy theories than anything else, so it’s interesting. Last summer History channel did a show about DB Cooper and I loved it. DB Cooper is closer to home for me, so I have more information and I have my theories. If you guys have any theories on either, I’d love to know what you think.

And my last favorite for May is the song Thunderstruck by AC/DC. I’ve liked this song for a long time, as many people have, but I’ve been using it as a pump up song when I workout and it’s been working great. If you haven’t heard definitely look it up on YouTube. It’s a great song.

That about wraps it up for this post, if we have any of the same favorites this month let me know. And if not, I’d love to know what you’ve been loving this month.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you’ve had a good May :).

April favorites

Hi everyone,

As it is the last week of April I thought it was time to do my April favorites. I think I have a fun mix this month, so let’s get into it. Starting with beauty, the first thing is from my April Glam Bag from Ipsy, if you haven’t read that I’ll link it below, and it’s the bag itself. As far as design goes, this is the most fun bag they’ve done this month. It’s a red-orange ticket and I think it’s so perfect for this time of year. Fair season is coming up and if you’re like me and don’t really go to a lot of fairs this is perfect for spring/ summer. It will bring an element of color and fun to any outfit.

Next we have the EM Cosmetics Illustrative Eyeliner with a brush tip. I’m always looking for a good eyeliner, especially liquid liner and I have found one in this. It’s quick drying, smudge proof, it lasts all day and it’s super easy to take off at the end of the day. For anyone looking, I would 100% recommend this.

And lastly from my April Glam Bag is the Meg twin nail polish in Lovey Dovey. I’ve worn both the colors, I’m actually wearing the nudey one right now. I really like the formulation, the color comes through nicely and the staying power is great.

Moving on, we have the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Nude Lip kit. I will also link that post down below if you haven’t read it. I really like everything that’s in that kit. I have worn the Buxom Full on Lip Cream since then and I did like it. It smells amazing, and it lasts on your lips for a while. If I would change anything, I think it would be the color. This one is in White Russian, and I think it was a little bit light for me personally, but I would order any of their other colors.

My next favorite is Easter. This year when my family got together we had a pretty chill day, watching baseball and playing games. But it was really nice and relaxing. And this is what I wore.

And speaking of baseball, that’s my next favorite. Baseball season is here, we’re almost through the first month of the season. My Seattle Mariners are off to a slightly slow start, they’re 8-13 right now which isn’t too horrible, very easy to get to .500 from here. And they’re in the middle of a road trip right now. I think this is one of the most talented teams we’ve had in a little while. Everyone is wanting to hit, having good at bats, defense is great, and the thing that has excited me the most is how many guys we have stealing bases. For the last five years at least I’ve been saying that we need to steal more bases and it’s finally happening. For the most part they have really adopted the Whatever It Takes mentality and I’m excited about the rest of the season.

Next up we have a food favorite. The other day I was looking through an ad that came in the mail for Fred Meyer or QFC and it was advertising a new flavor of the Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Pieces so I thought I would try them because I hadn’t yet and I love pretzels. When I got there they were sold out of the new flavors so I ended up buying the jalapeno ones and they were so good. When I opened the bag it instantly reminded me of the Tim’s Cascade chips, which I absolutely love. And they don’t hold back on the jalapeno flavor. Now I definitely want to try all of the other flavors.

And my last April favorite is The Bee Gees. Every couple of years the Grammy’s does a salute to a person or group who has been making music for a long time, they have other artists perform the honorees songs and at the end that person or group comes up and does a couple of their own songs. That I know of they’ve done Stevie Wonder and The Beatles, who I love very much, and this year it was The Bee Gees. I was pleasantly surprised at how many of their songs I knew, and since then I’ve been listening to their music regularly. And I very much want to sing with Barry Gibb, he’s amazing. If you’re not familiar with their music look them up on YouTube or iTunes, they’ve got some great songs.

That about wraps it up for this post. If we have any of the same favorites let me know and if not let me know what you’ve been loving this month.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you’ve had a great April :).

March favorites

Hi everyone,

As it is the end of March, I thought today would be the perfect time to do my March favorites.  I think I have a good mix this month, so lets get into it. Starting off with beauty, I have a couple of things from my March Glam Bag. If you haven’t read that post I’ll leave a link to it below. So, the first thing is actually the bag itself. I like this one the most out of the ones I’ve gotten so far. The design is super cute and the space is incredible. Because of the space, I started using it as a makeup bag in my new handbag.

My next favorite from the Glam Bag is the Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Rosé.  I already have two of these in different shades, Fly and OG, and I love them. I want one of every shade they make.

And my last Glam Bag favorite is the Marc Anthony True Professional aloe vera and jasmine deep repairing conditioning treatment. This really does do what it says it will. After using it my hair felt so soft and it was less frizzy. Plus it smells incredible. So I will definitely be ordering another one of these.

Sticking with beauty, my next favorite is an eyeshadow palette. It’s the Everyday Smoky palette from e.l.f. There is a mix of shimmery and matte shade, every color is so pretty and the color payoff is amazing. A lot of the palettes I have are mostly warm tones, so it’s nice to have another one that is cool tones. I highly recommend this and any of the e.l.f. eyeshadow palettes.

And the last beauty favorite is skincare related. I don’t have a picture, but it’s the e.l.f. Illuminating Eye Cream with Purified Water, Cucumber and Green Tea. I got a sample of this when I received my eyeshadow palette and fell in love. I do occasionally have puffiness and  bags under my eyes and this put the moisture back into my skin and made them disappear like a good eye cream should. So I’ve placed an order for a full sized version.

Moving on to fashion, recently I’ve been looking for a new handbag. Something not too spendy, but not cheap and will fall apart if it touches the ground and I definitely found that. This bag is from H&M and I’m so in love with it. It has two handles at the top plus a shoulder strap, which is detachable, the main compartment in the middle, plus one large compartment on each side that has a zipper. Another smaller zip pocket on the inside and two more small pockets. Four gold studs on the bottom and a black lining along the outer edge. I personally love all of the gold hardware and it doesn’t clash with the color which I think officially is Light Taupe. But I know you can also get this bag in black and white.

From fashion we go to books where we have How to Drag Race by Kevin McKenna. This book is honestly a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to break in to drag racing or needs help with the set up and tuning of their car. There is a ton of great information in there and I seriously recommend buying a copy, I bought mine on Amazon.

My second to last favorite is a song, and it’s Hangin’ Around by Edgar Winter. I came across this song by chance on Pandora and I thought it was great. I know a few Edgar Winter songs, but had never heard this one and I’m glad that I did. If you’re not familiar with it definitely look it up on YouTube. It’s a fun song.

And my last favorite for this month is a TV show. Dancing with the Stars to be exact. This season is season 24 and I’ve been watching since the beginning. There is a lot of talent this season and a little bit of crazy. If you follow me on Twitter, then you know on Monday nights there’s some DWTS tweets happening. But this season my favorite couples are Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko and David Ross and Lindsay Arnold. If any of you guys are watching this season let me know who you’re rooting for and what you think of the season so far.

That about wraps it up for this post, if you guys have any of the same favorites as me let me know and if not let me know what your favorites were for this month.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you’re having a good March :).

February favorites

Hi everyone,

As today is the first of March, I figured it was time to do my February favorites. I don’t have a ton of different favorites this month, but I think there is a good mix. Starting with beauty, we have, from NYX a lipstick. It’s a NYX Butter Lipstick in the shade Ripe Berry. This is from my February Glam Bag and if you haven’t read that post, I’ll link it below. When I unboxed this lipstick I was excited to wear it and when I put it on it was instant love. It looked different on my lips than it had when I tested it on my hand and in a it was way better. It’s about as dark as I’ve gone with berry toned lipsticks but it’s pretty much perfect. I would definitely recommend it.

My next favorite is an eye shadow. This is a cream pigment from Hikari Cosmetics in the shade Latte. I’m so in love with this shadow. It’s honestly so pretty, the color payoff is great and it blends really well. I will definitely be doing more looks with this shadow.

And my last beauty favorite is a nail polish by Trust Fund Beauty in the shade I Give Good Tweet. It’s in a periwinkle shade, which isn’t a color I already have in my polish collection, so I was excited it try it. I loved this shade in the bottle, and when I put it on it was just as pretty. The formulation is great and it had good staying power. I usually keep a manicure for about a week or so and it stayed looking good for that time. That’s one nail polish I know I will be going back to come spring and summer.

Moving on, my next two favorites are songs. The first is Bell Bottom Blues by Eric Clapton. This is one of those classic Clapton songs, but it had been forever and a day since I’d heard it, so when I put my phone on shuffle and it played it reminded me of how much I loved it. Besides the original Derek and The Dominos, my favorite version of the song is live from the One More Car One More Rider concert Eric did in 2001, but I know it’s a song he’s played since.

My last song favorite is also by Eric Clapton and it’s Lovin’ You Lovin’ Me. This is an old song of his, it’s from his 1970 self titled album and I’m not entirely sure if it’s on any others. I heard this song on one of my Pandora stations and there’s just something about it that made me smile. I knew that I had heard it before, ages and ages ago, but it was nice to hear it again. And if you haven’t heard either of these songs definitely look them up on YouTube.

And speaking of YouTube, my last favorite is a YouTube channel. You guys know that I love the US Navy Blue Angels, I did a post about them last summer, which I will link below. And right now they are doing their winter training in El Centro, California. I really like to watch videos of them practicing and seeing how, if at all they have changed some of the maneuvers. And really seeing how the team is after getting some new additions in the off season. There are a few channels on YouTube where people post this type of video, but my favorite is MKBLUES1. My brother actually told me about their channel and I’m glad he did. I think besides the camera work and how well edited their videos are they have what I’m assuming is a radio scanner and know what frequencies the Blues talk on so you can hear Boss talking and calling out maneuvers, the diamond pilots responding and the solos doing their thing. When I was a kid my brother had a scanner of his own and he knew the channels they talked on, so during Seafair he would turn it on so we could hear the pilots as we were seeing them and people would always come over to us and listen. It was quite fun. So I definitely recommend their channel if you are in to things like that.

That about wraps it up for this post. If you guys have any of the same favorites as me let me know and if not let me know what your favorites were for February.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you had a great February :).

Christmas favorites: music edition

Days until Christmas: 6

Hi everyone,

This week as it is getting quite close to Christmas, I wanted to share some of my favorite Christmas albums/ songs. I do have a fair few favorites, but I recently made a Christmas Day playlist, so these are fresh in my mind and they make up about a third of that playlist. So starting off with albums, the first one is Merry Christmas by Mariah Carey. The ultimate Christmas album, everyone loves Mariah at Christmas so this is a no brainer for me every year. I know the whole album by heart and belting it out is always one of my favorite things to do. Yes, I still have cd’s but I find it nice to have a hard copy in case anything ever happened to the digital copies I have. And this one is broken and I’m sure I’m the one that dropped it somewhere along the way, but it’s only the case so I can deal with it.

The next one is Christmas by Michael Buble. I absolutely love Buble at Christmas, this has quickly become one of my favorites and one of my favorites from the album is Cold December Night. Definitely listen to it if you haven’t.

My third favorite is Once Upon a Christmas by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. The rest of the year I never listen to Kenny and Dolly, except maybe Islands in the Stream, but at Christmas I’m all about this album. Once again I know all of the words to every song and I just find it to be so fun.

The second to last album is real classic Christmas, and that is The Sinatra Christmas Album by Frank Sinatra. In my house you can’t have Christmas without Frank, his voice is so iconic and so is his Christmas album and I like how he put his touch on each song.

And the last album is The Andy Williams Christmas Album. For me, Andy is right up there with Frank. Not Christmas without them. Before I was even born my parents took my siblings to an Andy Williams Christmas concert so it’s always requested that I put this album in the playlist and I do, because I love it.

So moving on to Christmas songs, I have a couple that immediately come to mind. The first is Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. I love Paul McCartney all year, I even saw him in concert when he performed at Safeco Field, that was the greatest show but that’s a story for a different blog. But I love that Paul has a Christmas song and I am attempting to learn it on piano, but I don’t know if that will happen this Christmas season.

The next one is Step Into Christmas by Elton John. I find it to be super catchy and it instantly makes me feel Christmassy when I hear it. Plus I love Elton John so it’s a win-win for me.

The third one is Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens. This is a song I discovered not that long ago, but I loved it from the minute I heard it and it has quickly become one that I love. And you should definitely listen to it if you haven’t before.

And the last one is not a Christmas song in the slightest, but it’s Joy to the World by Three Dog Night. I put this in my Christmas playlist because it’s called Joy to the World and I really like it. Three Dog Night was actually my first concert so I have a special place in my heart for the band and that song.

That about wraps it up for this post, if you guys have any of the same favorites let me know and let me know what your favorite Christmas albums/songs are.

Until next time, enjoy listening to all the Christmas music and remember Santa Claus is Coming to Town in only six days :).

Christmas favorites: TV specials

Days until Christmas: 11

Hi everyone,

This week I wanted to talk about another favorite of mine during December and that is TV specials. I almost included these in my post last week, but ultimately decided I wanted these to have their own moment so here we are. There’s no order to these because I love them all, but the first one is Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. Probably one of my earliest memories is watching Rudolph when I was really little and I remember thinking that it was the coolest thing for whatever reason and I wanted to watch it over and over again, so it was a good thing my parents had it on VHS. But Rudolph is a Christmas classic and I’m happy that they still play it during December.

My next favorite is Frosty the Snowman. I think what’s so great about Frosty is the magic of it and one of the best parts of the Christmas season is the magic and the majesty of it all. I will say that after watching Frosty when I was a kid my friends and I did make many a snowman and tried to bring him to life, to no avail, but it was still fun and it brings back a lot of memories for me when I watch it. And I think there is a lesson in there, that if you believe in it enough anything is possible and can happen. I also went with this picture because I thought that it was one of the most fun parts of the movie.

The next one is probably the ultimate Christmas special and that is Charlie Brown Christmas. I know that I always have looked forward to watching it and still like to sit down and do so. I think that of all of these this one has the most lessons and talks about life and I think that’s one of the things that I have always appreciated about Charlie Brown. And who doesn’t love Snoopy, he steals the show in the best way.

The second to last favorite is the original Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The Grinch is the character we love to hate. For most of the show at least. I much prefer this version to the movie version, but if the movie is on I’ll sit down and watch it. I’m not sure why I like this one more, maybe it’s because Boris Karloff had the perfect voice for the character or because when I was in choir in junior high we performed You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch at our Christmas concert and it was a lot of fun. But either way I love it.

And my last favorite is a TV special that’s relatively new and that is Disney’s Prep and Landing. I know they’ve made a couple of these and I think they’re all pretty good. I like these because they’ve got a slight adult edge to them and I find them to be funny. They’re different to the others I’ve mentioned in this post and I think it’s always nice when you can combine funny and Christmas and I would definitely recommend watching it if you haven’t.

That about wraps it up for this post. If you haven’t read my favorite Christmas movies post from last week I’ll link that down below. I think I’ll be posting another blog similar to this at the end of the week. But until then, let me know if we have any of the same favorites.

Until next time, have fun watching all the Christmas TV and I hope you’re feeling Christmassy :).

A few of my favorite things: Christmas movies

Days until Christmas: 18

Hi everyone,

This week I wanted to get into some of the Christmas posts I had planned, so I thought I would start with my favorite Christmas movies. One thing I will say is that I don’t have all of these on blu ray and I wish I did, but until then, I’m thankful for upconverting blu ray players. After the first one there is no real order, but my number one favorite is White Christmas. If you’re unfamiliar, it stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen and basically Bing and Danny team up with Rosemary and Vera and create a great show full of amazing singing and dancing. Everything down to the sets and costumes is incredible. Especially at the end of the movie when they sing White Christmas, those costumes are my favorite. I first saw this movie when I was maybe 7 or 8 at the request of my dad and ever since I have known all the words to all of the songs and for me it’s not Christmas without it.

The next movie isn’t one that I physically have a copy of, but I need to get and that is Love Actually. Some people say that it’s not strictly a Christmas movie, but I say that it is. I love each of the stories and how at the end of the day it’s all about love and it brings out my sappy romantic side a little bit. And if you haven’t ever watched it I highly recommend it.

Next we have the classic, A Christmas Story. I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t know about Ralphie and his desire to get a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle for Christmas. It really appeals to the kid in all of us who hinted and casually slipped into conversation with our parents that one thing we really wanted for Christmas that year. And every Christmas eve either TNT or TBS does 24 hours of A Christmas Story, so if you don’t have it on DVD, you can catch it there and I definitely do.

The next movie is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I think in some aspect we can all relate to Clark Griswold and him wanting to have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny f-ing Kaye. It doesn’t matter that I’ve seen it a million times already, it makes me laugh a lot every time I watch it.

My next favorite is Scrooged. I would say that Scrooged is a more brash and adult version of the classic Christmas Carol and it is quite funny. Bill Murray does a great job like always and it’s definitely worth a watch.

And speaking of a Christmas Carol, the next two movies are two different versions of it. The first being an absolute heartwarming classic, Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol. This has been a favorite of mine since I can remember and every time I watch it I’m reminded of Christmas when I was a little kid and that makes me happy. The other version I love is The Muppet Christmas Carol. Again, this has been a favorite of mine since I can remember. I think what I like so much about this one is the balance of humor along with the story is just right and who doesn’t love Muppets.

So my next favorite is a movie that has quickly become the favorite of a lot of people and that is Elf. I think if anyone else had played Buddy it wouldn’t have been the same and Will Ferrell was the perfect choice. And you can’t help but fall in love with it and being honest I can probably quote most of it at this point.

Sticking with movies I could probably quote we have Home Alone and Home Alone 2 although I don’t have an actual copy of the second one, I’m not sure why but I need to buy one. You know it’s going to be good because it’s from John Hughes. It’s a story that I think everyone can find one character to relate to and no matter what it will make you feel some sort of emotion. Mostly laughter, but it can play on the emotions towards the end of the movie.

Moving on to two of the last three, we have The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2. I know there are three movies, but I don’t like the last one as much as the first two. What I like about the first one is Tim Allen doesn’t believe in Santa anymore and finds himself having to become Santa and believe again. And in the second movie he has convince the woman he loves and try to get her to believe in Santa so he can continue to be Santa and it’s a great story.

And the last movie is It’s a Wonderful Life. It stars Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed and it’s one of the best Christmas movies around. In my family it’s tradition to watch this on Christmas Eve after we get back from dinner, so this is quintessential Christmas for me.

That about wraps it up for this post. I’ll probably do another post of this nature, favorite Christmas something, next week. But let me know if we have any of the same favorite movies and what your favorites are.

Until next time, enjoy watching movies and remember, every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings :).
