Father’s Day gift guide 2017

Hi everyone,

This week because Father’s Day is coming up I thought I would do a gift guide. I have always found it really easy to buy presents for my dad. But I know it’s not that way for a lot of people. And whether it’s that way for you or you’re just stuck for an idea this Father’s Day, I hope this post is helpful for you. I have a number of categories, and I will have a link down below to the things that I mention.

So the first thing is a Father’s Day classic and that’s anything in the area of grilling. I don’t think there’s a dad that doesn’t love to grill during a sunny summer weekend, or even during a rainy weekend. A set of grilling implements, an apron and anything like that is always a solid and probably safe bet. My dad is more into smoking than grilling right now, and most times when we have family get togethers he’s smoking some sort of meat and it’s delicious. If you’re going to go that route Masterbuillt is the best brand. Their products are top quality.

Next we have the personal care. I’ve always found that pretty much most men need and use a razor, so that’s always a good present. Along that same vein, cologne, lotions and products like that are good.

Pretty much one thing that never misses, doesn’t matter the event is gift cards. Everyone loves them and it takes the stress away of having to buy the perfect present.

One thing that pretty much everyone uses is some sort of streaming service. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. Subscriptions to services like that are like gift cards. They have something for everyone.

Next up is a dad classic, tools. There is always a need for tools, in every household. Screw drivers, saws, drills. All always needed.

One of my favorite things to do with my dad is watch sports and talk (occasionally argue) about it. I, like my dad, am a huge Mariners and Seahawks fan so anytime either of us see anything Seahawks or Mariners related that the other would like we buy it. So if your dad is a sports fan any kind of jersey or knick knack type thing will be a hit. Especially if you can find anything signed by his favorite player or players.

I have two things left on my list and the second to last is anything related to technology. I know that technology isn’t everyone’s forte, but for the technology lover, Bluetooth speakers, drones, you can’t go wrong. I personally really want a drone, but haven’t bought one yet. Maybe I’ll buy one for my dad and “borrow it”.

And lastly, anything personalized is always a hit on Father’s Day. Cups, plaques, anything you can think of you can personalize. I’ve found that a personalized gift usually draws a couple of tears. And is always appreciated.

That about wraps it up for this post. Like I mentioned at the beginning of this, hopefully this post is helpful to you guys and you find something that your dad will love.

Until next time, I hope you find something and have a Happy Father’s Day :).

March favorites

Hi everyone,

As it is the end of March, I thought today would be the perfect time to do my March favorites.  I think I have a good mix this month, so lets get into it. Starting off with beauty, I have a couple of things from my March Glam Bag. If you haven’t read that post I’ll leave a link to it below. So, the first thing is actually the bag itself. I like this one the most out of the ones I’ve gotten so far. The design is super cute and the space is incredible. Because of the space, I started using it as a makeup bag in my new handbag.

MF1

My next favorite from the Glam Bag is the Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Rosé.  I already have two of these in different shades, Fly and OG, and I love them. I want one of every shade they make.

MGB4

And my last Glam Bag favorite is the Marc Anthony True Professional aloe vera and jasmine deep repairing conditioning treatment. This really does do what it says it will. After using it my hair felt so soft and it was less frizzy. Plus it smells incredible. So I will definitely be ordering another one of these.

MGB7

Sticking with beauty, my next favorite is an eyeshadow palette. It’s the Everyday Smoky palette from e.l.f. There is a mix of shimmery and matte shade, every color is so pretty and the color payoff is amazing. A lot of the palettes I have are mostly warm tones, so it’s nice to have another one that is cool tones. I highly recommend this and any of the e.l.f. eyeshadow palettes.

MF2

And the last beauty favorite is skincare related. I don’t have a picture, but it’s the e.l.f. Illuminating Eye Cream with Purified Water, Cucumber and Green Tea. I got a sample of this when I received my eyeshadow palette and fell in love. I do occasionally have puffiness and  bags under my eyes and this put the moisture back into my skin and made them disappear like a good eye cream should. So I’ve placed an order for a full sized version.

Moving on to fashion, recently I’ve been looking for a new handbag. Something not too spendy, but not cheap and will fall apart if it touches the ground and I definitely found that. This bag is from H&M and I’m so in love with it. It has two handles at the top plus a shoulder strap, which is detachable, the main compartment in the middle, plus one large compartment on each side that has a zipper. Another smaller zip pocket on the inside and two more small pockets. Four gold studs on the bottom and a black lining along the outer edge. I personally love all of the gold hardware and it doesn’t clash with the color which I think officially is Light Taupe. But I know you can also get this bag in black and white.

MF3

From fashion we go to books where we have How to Drag Race by Kevin McKenna. This book is honestly a fantastic resource for anyone who wants to break in to drag racing or needs help with the set up and tuning of their car. There is a ton of great information in there and I seriously recommend buying a copy, I bought mine on Amazon.

MF4

My second to last favorite is a song, and it’s Hangin’ Around by Edgar Winter. I came across this song by chance on Pandora and I thought it was great. I know a few Edgar Winter songs, but had never heard this one and I’m glad that I did. If you’re not familiar with it definitely look it up on YouTube. It’s a fun song.

And my last favorite for this month is a TV show. Dancing with the Stars to be exact. This season is season 24 and I’ve been watching since the beginning. There is a lot of talent this season and a little bit of crazy. If you follow me on Twitter, then you know on Monday nights there’s some DWTS tweets happening. But this season my favorite couples are Erika Jayne and Gleb Savchenko and David Ross and Lindsay Arnold. If any of you guys are watching this season let me know who you’re rooting for and what you think of the season so far.

That about wraps it up for this post, if you guys have any of the same favorites as me let me know and if not let me know what your favorites were for this month.

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and I hope you’re having a good March :).

September favorites

Hi everyone,

So this week, as we’re a week into October I figured it was time to post my September favorites. This one is a bit of a mash up, so enjoy :), So, my first favorite is a beauty favorite and it’s the Maybelline Great Lash, Lots of Lashes mascara. I mentioned that I was using this in my Three easy makeup looks and three OOTD’s post because I ran out of my Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, but I’ve really grown to like it. It is a cheaper drug store makeup product that’s been around forever, but they’ve changed a few things. This particular brush is shaped like a Christmas tree and it feels more long lasting. I would highly recommend this mascara because the way it makes my lashes look is insane.

sf1

My next favorite is a book, and it’s The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Stedman. I cannot say enough good things about this book. The story is absolutely incredible, it’s so well written, I could picture every scene and I honestly cried like a baby at the end. After I finished it I immediately wanted to start reading it again. It’s now been made into a movie, which I haven’t actually seen yet, but I can’t wait to see. It was one of those books that once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. Highly, highly recommend it because you will love it.

sf2

So, moving on, my next two favorites are food related. Well actually, ice cream. The first is a very beginning of September, when it was still summer fav and it’s Ben & Jerry’s Cookies & Cream Cheesecake Core. I can’t even tell you how good this ice cream is. It’s chocolate and cheesecake ice creams with chocolate cookie pieces and the best cheesecake core. It was like eating the best cheesecake mixture you could imagine.

sf3

The next ice cream is one I found at the end of September and it’s Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake. This is essentially fall all wrapped up and put in a box. It’s pumpkin cheesecake ice cream with a graham cracker swirl. The graham cracker swirl adds a nice textural element and helps in making sure it’s not too overpowering. Which this isn’t because while you can taste all of the pumpkin flavors it’s not like a lot of other pumpkin flavored things this time of year that get a little out of control. And this is a limited seasonal ice cream, so get it while you can.

sf4

Next up we have a couple of music favorites. The first is Pandora radio. I’ve had Pandora for a long time, but lately I’ve been using it more and liking it more. It’s been playing great music on all of my stations, so I’ve been appreciating it a lot lately.

sf5

My next music favorite is something that just came. And it’s Joe Bonamassa Live at the Greek Theatre. Ever since Joe has been around and making music my dad has been telling me about him. There are a lot of his songs that I do like, but for some reason, this concert and album I really like a lot. Maybe it’s because it is slightly different than things he’s done in the past, but I’m really enjoying it. And I have ordered the Blu-ray version of the concert from his website. And so far, my favorite song is “Ole Time Religion”. It’s really fun and not typically what I would go for, but the arrangement and his guitar playing takes it to another level. Plus as someone who loves to sing and sings all the time, the vocal possibilities with this song are great.

sf6

My second to last favorite is a TV show and it’s Archer. The last week and a half or so of September I was sick, so I watched a lot of Netflix. And after listening to my brother talk about Archer forever, I decided to watch it and I’m so glad I did because it’s so great. It’s my sense of humor, the jokes are so funny, the characters are great, and it makes me laugh a lot. If you haven’t watched it I would recommend doing so. Netflix has season 1-6 and I think you can probably find the latest season, season 7 on demand somewhere.

sf7

And my last favorite is the Seattle Mariners. I can’t even tell you how proud I am of this team. They had a really good season and just barely missed out on the playoffs. And I mean just barely. I think that this season more than those in recent years, they played like a whole team and when they needed to score runs and hit home runs they did. They ended up finishing second in the American League West at 86-76. Considering there was a new General Manager, Jerry Dipoto, and Manager, Scott Servais, it was a good year and it gives me a lot of hope and excitement for next season. Go Mariners.

sf8

That about wraps it up for this favorites, with the seasons changing and it being holiday time, I’ll probably be doing a monthly favorites until the end of the year. But, if you and I had any of the same favorites in September let me know :).

Until next time, enjoy your favorites and have a great October :).

I want your input

Hi everyone,

This isn’t the typical blog post, but rather something I want your opinion on. I’ve been wanting to do a Q&A for a while now, and I want to know how you guys want me to do it. What I’m thinking is I can do the traditional blog post where you send me your questions and I write out my answers, or I could do a livestream on YouTube. Let me know what you guys think and remember to send in questions. The questions can be about anything you want, so don’t think it has to be solely about makeup and beauty. Anyway, let me know what you guys think :).

April favorites

Hi everyone,

Since we are in the first week of May, I thought that this would be a good time to talk about my April favorites. I have quite the random mix, so enjoy :). The first thing I want to talk about is beauty. My first product is from the e.l.f. blush palette in Light. Lately I’ve been going for a more bronzed look and the bronzer in this palette is one of my favorites. It’s not too orange or too dark for my face and it gives me the look that I want. And I actually quite like the blush that is right below it. It has little gold flecks in it, gives a nice glow and it’s not too pink. It’s got a nice reddish tone to it.

AF1

My next beauty favorite is from Hard Candy and it’s three of their All Glossed Up lip stains. I know that I’ve talked about these previously, but this last month I really liked them a lot. The dark pink and nudey brown I’ve used more so they’ve taken on kind of a weird shape. But I just started to use the peachy one. I’m not gonna lie, when I first swatched it I was hesitant because it looked quite orange, But I was pleasantly surprised when I put it on to find out that that wasn’t the case. It has a nice peach tone and goes with pretty much any look as do the other two. And I think my next purchase from Hard Candy will be the matte lip stains.

AF2

My second to last beauty favorite is a simple one. And it is the vanilla Softlips lip balm. I’ve been using Softlips for years and they are my favorite lip balm. I’ve tried different ones, but the vanilla is my favorite. What I’ve been using it for more recently is after I take off all of my makeup and go through my nightly routine, right before I go to bed I’ll put it on. And I’ve actually been seeing a difference. I use a lot of different lip products and this really has kept and probably put some moisture back in my lips. And this particular one is SPF 20 which is an added bonus.

AF3

My last beauty favorite is actually hair care and it’s my shampoo and conditioner. They are from Paul Mitchell and it’s the Awapuhi Shampoo and The Detangler conditioner and they are some of the original products. I’ve tried a lot of different shampoos and conditioners and I’ve found that for me these work the best. I dye my hair blonde and that can be slightly damaging for the hair, but these keep it silky and smooth. I also have quite thick hair so the detangling conditioner is a dream for me. Plus they smell amazing.

AF4

Moving on to food, I have one favorite and it’s the Kashi Honey Almond Flax chewy granola bar. I know that I’ve mentioned this bar before, but it really is my favorite and when I’m feeling snacky this is what I’ve been going for and I would recommend it.

AF5

My next couple things are accessories. The first is a watch. I bought this watch at Kohl’s during an after Christmas sale and was wearing it a little bit. But more recently I’ve been wearing it a lot. It’s rose gold which I love and it has a grey leather band. I also really like the size of the face. It’s not too big, but it’s also not dainty like a lot of women’s watches can be. It goes with practically everything and I’m just so in love with it.

AF6

The next thing is kind of an accessory, but it’s more practical. And that is this knife. I carry a knife probably everyday and have for years. Why I carried this one a lot in April is because of the size. It’s nice and small which was perfect because we had the hottest April in 30 years so I was wearing shorts most days and my shorts have really small pockets. I’m not sure the name of this knife but it’s from Precision Point.

AF7

My next favorite is the book that I’m currently reading. And that is Beyond Band of Brothers; The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters by Major Dick Winters, Commander, Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Colonel Cole C. Kingseed. I’m two thirds of the way through with this book and I’m absolutely loving it. If any of you watched the HBO series Band of Brothers then you know about the Easy Company and Major Winters. And how amazing he was. From parachuting into France on D-Day to taking over command of Easy Company Major Winters was a great leader. I said the other day that I wished I could go back in time and meet him and I truly mean it.

AF8

My next couple of favorites are two racing series. IMSA and Indy Car. I grew up watching all kinds of racing, you guys know that drag racing is my favorite, but I found that I’ve been enjoying these two more than in years past. Of course I have my favorite teams and guys that I root for but it’s always competitive and exciting to watch. Especially this season with the rivalry between the Corvette’s and the Porsche’s in the GTLM class in IMSA being so intense.

AF10

AF11

AF12

My last favorite is the Seattle Mariners. I’m from Washington so the Mariners are my team and I could not be more proud and happy with how this season is going so far. As I’m writing this they have won their last six series, including sweeping the Oakland Athletics yesterday. They are in first place in the AL West and won today in their opening game in a four game series with the Houston Astros. For the first time in a long time I feel like they are playing as a team. Pitching is good offense is good and defense is good. We’re getting production from the whole lineup and it’s really exciting.

I think that’s about it for this favorites. I had more than I originally thought and I probably won’t do another one for a few months. If you guys had any of the same favorites let me know and if not, I would love to know what you guys have been loving :).

Until next time, have a great May and enjoy your favorites :).

Into the blue

Hi everyone,

Recently I’ve been doing more reading, so I wanted to talk to you about the book I just finished. The book is The Wild Blue; The Men and Boys Who Flew The B-24’s Over Germany 1944-45 by Stephen E. Ambrose.

Book1

The main focus is on George McGovern and his crew on the B-24 Dakota Queen. In reality, the Dakota Queen was actually the Yo-Yo, but the crew decided, because McGovern was the only one on the crew who was married, to name the plane after George’s wife Eleanor who was from South Dakota. One of the things that I really appreciate about this book is that while the main focus is McGovern and his crew, you get to read about so many others and really know their stories. There is so much detail and you really get a feel for how difficult it was to actually get to fly one of these planes. They don’t say the B-24 was the hardest plane to fly for nothing. There were no frills and it took all of your mental and physical strength to fly and keep in formation and not crash. While reading this I really felt like I got a good understanding of what it was like to be living in Italy at this time, what it was like to fly these missions and how perilous it truly was. It definitely made me think and I have a whole new level of respect for not just the pilots and their crews, but everyone who fought and risked their lives in World War II. I 100% recommend reading this book.

Now normally this is where I would end a book review, but this one is different. I have a connection to the B-24. My great-uncle Joe Sage was a B-24 pilot. Now while he is still alive, I didn’t know much about his time in the war and still don’t know all the stories. I do remember him coming to visit ages ago and telling a bunch of stories, but I wasn’t at an age to where I appreciated it and I wish I could remember some of it. Anyway, going off of what I did have which was basically a name and when he was born, I went to the internet. I was actually amazed with what I was able to find. I found out that he was part of the 461st Bomb Group Heavy and it’s 765th Squadron. I was able to find out his crew number, and I even found a picture of him and his crew in front of their plane which was incredible and attached to that was a story from a radio operator about how he was an amazing pilot and on multiple occasions was able to save the crew and the plane. And it honestly made me a little emotional.

I also have another connection to the B-24. I’ve walked through one. This was about 3 or 4 years ago when The Collings Foundation came to an airport near me. They brought their B-24J Liberator, B-17G Flying Fortress, and P-51C Mustang. Basically you can walk through the B-24 and B-17, which is super cool, you can watch them fly, and you can even pay for a ride which I would love to do one of these days. It’s a great experience and I would highly recommend going to see them if you can. I’m going to post some pictures that I took on that day and I’ll leave the link to their website below.

I do already have my next read in mind, but if you guys have any book suggestions I would love to hear them :).

Until next time, enjoy reading and take as many pictures as possible :).

A little something for everyone

Hi everyone,

Over the weekend I did a bit of cleaning and organizing. A big part of that included sorting out my overflowing bookshelves. After going through and rediscovering books that I hadn’t seen for a while, I got the idea to gather together a few books and do this post. I did end up with quite a random selection of books, but I ended up picking three great ones. These don’t go in any particular order, but I do highly recommend them all. The first is Funny Car Fever: The Birth of Drag Racing’s Wildest Class by Steve Reyes.

FB1

This book is about the rise of the funny cars in NHRA drag racing and how they evolved throughout the years. There are tons of amazing pictures and stories from the author. I think what is so intriguing about this book is you’re getting stories from someone who was there when it all happened. As someone who loves drag racing and has wanted to be a funny car driver since childhood, I think it’s the perfect book to have in your collection, especially now. This year the NHRA is celebrating 50 years of Funny Cars and this is great refresher course.

The next book is Phantom in the River: The Flight of Linfield Two Zero One by Gary Wayne Foster.

FB2

I could probably write about this book for a year, there are so many things to say about it. Basically it’s about an F-4B Phantom II that flew during the Vietnam War. It covers how the Phantom came to be, the stories of the pilots Ev Southwick and Jack Rollins and what happened when they were shot down. There is of course more to it, but I don’t want to give it away. It also includes photos. I think that the author is due a lot of thanks because had he not thought this story needed to be shared this book would not exist. For me, one of the things that I have always had a love for and geek out over is aviation and military history for that matter. I’ve been going to airshows since I was four years old so I love this book and find it very fascinating.

The last book appeals to the romantic side of us all and it’s The Choice by Nicholas Sparks.

FB3

I’ve been seeing the trailer for the movie for a while, thought it looked good and knew instantly that I wanted to read the book. I’m going to be honest with you, it took me a day to read this. One day, I got it last Saturday and finished it as I was going to bed that night. I’ve read many Nicholas Sparks books and there is just something about the way they’re written that draws you in. I definitely got emotional, as one does when reading Nicholas Sparks, but I loved it and I can’t wait to see the movie.

I’m always looking for a book to read, so tweet me any suggestions you guys have :).

Until next time, enjoy your books and you never know what you’ll find when you’re cleaning.
