Blogmas Day Seven: What Makes This Movie Great, It’s A Wonderful Life

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Blogmas Day Seven! Today we’re going to be talking about Christmas movies and more specifically It’s A Wonderful Life.

It's a Wonderful Life - Where to Watch and Stream - TV Guide

If you’re unfamiliar with it, it’s a 1946 film with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, directed by Frank Capra. The basis of the movie is George Bailey (Stewart) gives up his personal dreams to help his community, comes upon some issues and hard times and jumps off a bridge. He’s saved by an angel, his guardian angel, who is trying to get his wings and that angel, Clarence, then shows George what the town and the lives of his friends and family would be like if he hadn’t been born at all and didn’t exist. George seeing this, realizes that he wants things to go back to normal and that things are pretty damn great.

It’s such an incredible movie overall. It’s tradition in my family that on Christmas Eve we all go to my parents house, have dinner and watch this movie, so I’ve been watching it since before I can remember.

There’s so many quotable moments from it and it truly never gets old. They do have both black and white and color versions of it available now, but having watched both, I can tell you that the black and white is so much better. It really brings home the classic and nostalgic feel.

I mentioned that it’s tradition in my family to watch this movie on Christmas Eve, but the thing to that is no one watches it any other time. It does come on TV around this time but we all hold off so we can watch it together and have it truly be a once a year thing. Also the commentary that inevitably happens is more fun and funny if it’s the first time in a year that everyone has seen it.

There are obviously a ton of great movies to watch during the season, but this one, for me, really makes it feel like Christmas and gives me all the cozy feels.

That about wraps it up for this post, if you guys have any similar movie traditions let me know what you watch and if not I’d love to know what your Christmas Eve traditions are.

Until next time, have fun watching movies, I’m glad you’re enjoying Blogmas and invest in the plastics George :).
