Blogmas Day Four: Why This Movie Is Great: White Christmas Edition

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Blogmas Day Four! Today I have something a little bit different, a few weeks ago my friends and I were having a lively debate about Christmas movies (Home Alone 3) and there was a definite divide between the two sides. One thing that was agreed upon when I brought it up, at least by the people who have seen it, is that White Christmas is one of the best Christmas movies, so I thought I would talk about why I think it’s great.

White Christmas was released in 1954 and stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. This was actually a big deal when it came out because it was the first film to be released in VistaVision. I think one of the things that immediately drew me in the first time I saw this movie, I think I was about 10 years old, was that it starts in 1944 during the war because, as a self proclaimed history nerd, that’s one of my favorite time periods. And from there Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye team up and start taking over the entertainment world. I’ve always thought that Bing and Danny were the perfect pair for this movie, they balance each other very well.

When they meet Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen, they, after some trials and tribulations, basically start down the road of becoming a double act and end up in Vermont together. Where there’s more trials and tribulations, including romance and what always comes with romance in movies, confusion, but it all ends well as an incredible show is put on, a beloved General is surprised and couples are formed (I’m team Rosemary and Bing for favorite couple, but I want to know what you think).

At the core of this movie is the music, all of the music is incredible. There isn’t one song that I don’t like or I think doesn’t belong in the movie, and yes, I do have all the songs pretty much memorized. The dancing is also fantastic and it really helps to bring the musical scenes together.

The costuming is on another level for me, the costumes for the Sisters number with the blue dresses and the fans will always be iconic but for me, the ultimate costumes are the red dresses at the very end when they sing White Christmas. To this day I still want one of those dresses because they are incredible and I feel like everyone needs to own one.

I found out that White Christmas is on Netflix, so I will be forcing all of my friends to watch it during Discord movie night, because everyone needs to experience the magic and wonder that is White Christmas.

That about wraps it up for this post, I’d love to know what your thoughts are on White Christmas and I’d also love to know what your favorite Christmas movie is.

Until next time, have fun watching Christmas movies and I hope you’re enjoying Blogmas :).
