Racing in Las Vegas: Four-Wide edition

Hi everyone,

This weeks race took us to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals and it did not disappoint. I know there are people who oppose four-wide racing and think it’s boring, but I am not one of those people. I find it exciting and think it’s amazing that four-wide on the west coast is now a reality. And the sell out this weekend tells the same story.

Starting with Top Fuel, the quads looked like this; #1 Tony Schumacher (3.76), #8 Scott Palmer (3.81), #9 Terry McMillen (3.81) and #16 Steve Chrisman (12.55). Quad #2; #4 Billy Torrence (3.77), #5 Steve Torrence (3.78), #12 Troy Buff (3.93) and #13 Clay Millican (3.98). Quad #3; #2 Antron Brown (3.77), #7 Leah Pritchett (3.79), #10 Mike Salinas (3.82) and #15 Terry Totten (4.26). Quad #4: #3 Brittany Force (3.77), #6 Doug Kalitta (3.78), #11 Richie Crampton (3.82) and #14 Terry Haddock (4.02). The semifinals were Tony Schumacher (3.89) vs Steve Chrisman (4.11) vs Clay Millican (3.74) vs Steve Torrence (3.81) and Antron Brown (3.79) vs Leah Pritchett (3.79) vs Doug Kalitta (3.81) vs Richie Crampton (3.83). The finals featured Tony Schumacher (4.29) and the US Army team vs Steve Torrence (3.76) and the Capco team vs Antron Brown (4.05) and the Matco Tools team vs Doug Kalitta (3.86) and the Mac Tools team. With the winner being Steve Torrence (3.77) followed by Tony Schumacher (3.79), Doug Kalitta (3.91) and Antron Brown (4.09). This is Steve’s second win of the season.

Next up we have Funny Car, where the quads looked like this; #1 Courtney Force (3.92), #8 Cruz Pedregon (3.99), #9 Jonnie Lindberg (3.99) and #16 Jim Campbell (4.13). Quad #2: #4 Ron Capps (3.95), #5 Robert Hight (3.96), #12 Gary Densham (4.02) and #13 Jack Beckman (4.02). Quad #3: #2 Tommy Johnson Jr (3.93), #7 Matt Hagan (3.98), #10 Tim Wilkerson (4.00) and #15 Del Worsham (4.04). Quad #4: #3 JR Todd (3.95), #6 Bob Tasca (3.96), #11 John Force (4.01) and #14 Shawn Langdon (4.04). The semifinals were Courtney Force (3.96) vs Jonnie Lindberg (4.38) vs Jack Beckman (4.08) vs Gary Densham (5.30) and Tommy Johnson Jr (4.03) vs Del Worsham (4.49) vs JR Todd (3.95) vs John Force (4.01). The finals featured Courtney Force (4.12) and the Advanced Auto Parts team vs Jack Beckman (4.01) and the Infinite Hero team vs Tommy Johnson Jr (4.00) and the Make-A-Wish team vs JR Todd (4.05) and the DHL team. With the winner being JR Todd (4.04) followed by Jack Beckman (4.05), Courtney Force (4.00) and Tommy Johnson Jr (3.98). This is JR’s first win of the season.

And finally we have Pro Stock, where this weekend their specialty race, the K&N Horsepower Challenge took place and was won for the seventh time, third in a row, by Greg Anderson so congrats to him and his team. The quads looked like this; #1 Greg Anderson (6.66), #8 Erica Enders (6.71), #9 Vincent Nobile (6.72) and #16 Joey Grose (6.91). Quad #2: #4 Chris McGaha (6.70), #5 Alex Laughlin (6.70), #12 Matt Hartford (6.74) and #13 Jeg Coughlin (6.75). Quad #3: #2 Deric Kramer (6.68), #7 Tanner Gray (6.71), #10 Shane Gray (6.73) and #15 Alan Prusiensky (6.84). Quad #4: #3 Bo Butner (6.70), #6 Jason Line (6.70), #11 Drew Skillman (6.73) and #14 Steve Graham (6.79). The semifinals were Greg Anderson (6.66) vs Vincent Nobile (6.72) vs Chris McGaha (6.65) vs Matt Hartford (6.68) and Deric Kramer (6.66) vs Drew Skillman (6.68) vs Bo Butner (6.69) vs Tanner Gray (6.67). The finals featured Chris McGaha (6.67) and the Harlow Sammons team vs Vincent Nobile (6.67) and the Mountain View Tire team vs Bo Butner (6.70) and the Jim Butner Auto team vs Deric Kramer (6.69) and the American Ethanol team. With the winner being Vincent Nobile (6.69) followed by Deric Kramer (6.67), Bo Butner (6.68) and Chris McGaha (6.66). This is Vincent’s first win of the season.

The next race will be the NHRA Spring Nationals April 20-22 in Houston, Texas.
