Racing in Texas

Hi everyone,

This weeks race took us to Houston, Texas for the NHRA Spring Nationals. And what a race it was, there was no shortage of drama.

Starting with Top Fuel, the biggest news is that Shawn Langdon is back to racing with Kalitta Motorsports and Global Electronic Technology as a sponsor. And the ladder looked like this; #1 Clay Millican (3.72) vs #16 Steve Chrisman (5.76), #2 Antron Brown (3.72) vs #15 Terry Haddock (3.98), #3 Doug Kalitta (3.73) vs #14 Terry McMillen (3.89), #4 Steve Torrence (3.74) vs #13 Shawn Reed (3.86), #5 Brittany Force (3.74) vs #12 Troy Coughlin Jr (3.86), #6 Leah Pritchett (3.74) vs #11 Scott Palmer (3.83), #7 Bob Vandergriff (3.78) vs #10 Shawn Langdon (3.82) and #8 Tony Schumacher (3.78) vs #9 Troy Buff (3.81). The winners and who they would face in the second round were Clay Millican (3.72) and Tony Schumacher (3.75), Steve Torrence (3.74) and Troy Coughlin Jr (3.85), Antron Brown (3.75) and Bob Vandergriff (3.77), and Doug Kalitta (3.76) and Leah Pritchett (3.74). The semifinals were Clay Millican (3.78) vs Steve Torrence (3.75) and Antron Brown (3.76) vs Leah Pritchett (3.77). The finals featured Steve Torrence (3.76) and the Capco team and Leah Pritchett (3.77) and the Papa John’s team. With the winner being Leah Pritchett (3.78). This is Leah’s third win of the season.

Next we have Funny Car, where the ladder looked like this; #1 Courtney Force (3.85) vs #16 Jeff Diehl (11.83), #2 Ron Capps (3.88) vs #15 Todd Simpson (8.42), #3 John Force (3.89) vs #14 Del Worsham (4.13), #4 Robert Hight (3.89) vs #13 Jim Campbell (4.12), #5 Cruz Pedregon (3.89) vs #12 JR Todd (4.01), #6 Jack Beckman (3.90) vs #11 Matt Hagan (3.97), #7 Tommy Johnson Jr (3.93) vs #10 Jonnie Lindberg (3.96) and #8 Tim Wilkerson (3.94) vs #9 Alexis DeJoria (3.94). The winners and who they would face in the second round were Courtney Force (5.34) and Alexis DeJoria (3.92), Robert Hight (3.87) and JR Todd (3.95), Ron Capps (3.89) and Jonnie Lindberg (3.94) and John Force (4.21) and Jack Beckman (4.22). The semifinals were Courtney Force (3.94) vs Robert Hight (3.89) and Ron Capps (3.95) vs Jack Beckman (3.89). The finals featured Robert Hight (3.90) and the AAA team and Ron Capps (3.92) and the NAPA Auto Parts team. With the winner being Ron Capps (4.00). This is Ron’s first win of the season and he won it in old school Funny Car, on fire crossing the finish line, fashion. If you haven’t seen it yet definitely look it up on YouTube.

And finally we have Pro Stock, where with 13 cars, the ladder looked like this; #1 Jeg Coughlin (6.55), #2 Bo Butner (6.56) vs #13 Allen Johnson (6.64), #3 Greg Anderson (6.56) vs #12 Alan Prusiensky (6.62), #4 Erica Enders (6.57) vs #11 Richie Stevens (6.61), #5 Tanner Gray (6.57) vs #10 Alex Laughlin (6.61), #6 Jason Line (6.57) vs #9 Vincent Nobile (6.60) and #7 Drew Skillman (6.58) vs #8 Chris McGaha (6.59). The winners and who they could face in the second round were Jeg Coughlin (6.49) and Chris McGaha (6.56), Richie Stevens (6.58) and Tanner Gray (6.55), Bo Butner (6.52), and Greg Anderson (6.53) and Vincent Nobile (6.54). The semifinals were Jeg Coughlin (6.54) vs Tanner Gray (6.54) and Bo Butner (6.54) vs Greg Anderson (6.55). The finals featured Jeg Coughlin (6.55) and the Jegs team and Bo Butner (6.53) and the Jim Butner Auto team. With the winner being, on his eighth attempt, Bo Butner (6.55). This is Bo’s first career win. Besides Bo’s first win there was some fighting between Tanner Gray’s team and Alex Laughlin’s team, so if you want to see that it’s pretty much everywhere on the Internet right now.

The next race will be the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, April 28-30 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
