Racing in Pomona

Hi everyone,

This weeks race took us to Pomona, California for the Auto Club NHRA Finals aka the last race of the season. And what a good race it was.

Starting off with Top Fuel, the ladder looked like this; #1 JR Todd (3.68) vs #16 Troy Buff (3.87), #2 Doug Kalitta (3.70) vs #15 Shawn Reed (3.84), #3 Shawn Langdon (3.71) vs #14 Tripp Tatum (3.81), #4 Antron Brown (3.71) vs #13 Morgan Lucas (3.80), #5 Leah Prichett (3.71) vs #12 Terry McMillen (3.79), #6 Steve Torrence (3.71) vs #11 Wayne Newby (3.76), #7 Tony Schumacher (3.72) vs #10 Clay Millican and #8 Brittany Force (3.73) vs #9 Richie Crampton (3.73). The winners and who they would face in the second round were JR Todd (3.81) and Richie Crampton (3.77), Antron Brown (3.76) and Leah Prichett (3.76), Doug Kalitta (3.75) and Tony Schumacher (4.92) and Shawn Langdon (3.76) and Steve Torrence (3.73). The semifinals were JR Todd (3.76) vs Antron Brown (3.75) and Doug Kalitta (3.74) vs Shawn Langdon (3.78). The finals featured JR Todd (3.70) and the SealMaster team and his Kalitta Motorsports teammate Doug Kalitta (3.73) and the Mac Tools team. With the winner being Doug Kalitta (3.74). This is Doug’s fourth win of the season.

Next we have Funny Car, where 15 of the 16 cars were qualified in the 3 second range and the ladder looked like this; #1 Jack Beckman (3.82) vs #16 John Bojec (4.02), #2 Courtney Force (3.86) vs #15 Jim Campbell (3.97), #3 Tommy Johnson Jr (3.87) vs #14 Dave Richards (3.97), #4 John Force (3.87) vs #13 Cruz Pedregon (3.95), #5 Ron Capps (3.88) vs #12 Chad Head (3.94), #6 Robert Hight (3.88) vs #11 Paul Lee (3.93), #7 Matt Hagan (3.89) vs #10 Jeff Arend, who was filling in for Alexis DeJoria  who was recovering from a concussion, (3.93), and #8 Del Worsham (3.91) vs #9 Tim Wilkerson (3.92). The winners and who they would face in the second round were Jack Beckman (no time) and Tim Wilkerson (3.92), John Force (3.96) and Ron Capps (4.14), Courtney Force (4.13) and Jeff Arend (3.97) and Tommy Johnson Jr (4.37) and Robert Hight (3.92). The semifinals were Jack Beckman (3.91) vs John Force (3.94) and Courtney Force (3.92) vs Tommy Johnson Jr (3.89). The finals featured John Force (3.93) and the Peak Antifreeze team and Tommy Johnson Jr (3.92) and the Make-A-Wish team. With the winner being Tommy Johnson Jr (3.91). This is Tommy’s third win of the season.

Moving on we have Pro Stock, where the ladder looked like this; #1 Jason Line (6.54) vs #16 Alan Prusiensky (6.65), #2 Bo Butner (6.55) vs #15 Deric Kramer (6.63), #3 Greg Anderson (6.55) vs #14 Aaron Strong (6.62), #4 Vincent Nobile (6.57) vs #13 Jeg Coughlin (6.61), #5 Alex Laughlin (6.57) vs #12 Erica Enders (6.60), #6 Shane Gray (6.57) vs #11 Matt Hartford (6.60), #7 Drew Skillman (6.59) vs #10 Allen Johnson (6.60) and #8 Kenny Delco (6.59) vs #9 Chris McGaha (6.59). The winners and who they would face in the second round were Jason Line (6.56) and Chris McGaha (7.46), Vincent Nobile (6.60) and Erica Enders (6.62), Bo Butner (6.59) and Drew Skillman (6.59) and Greg Anderson (6.57) and Shane Gray (6.58). The semifinals were Jason Line (6.60) vs Erica Enders (6.64) and Bo Butner (6.60) vs Greg Anderson (6.59). The finals featured Jason Line (6.59) and the Summit Racing Equipment team and Greg Anderson (6.59) and the Summit Racing Equipment team. With the winner being Greg Anderson (6.58). This is Greg’s eighth win of the season. He is now 2nd on the Pro Stock all-time wins list with 86 career wins.

And finally we have Pro Stock Motorcycle, where the ladder looked like this; #1 Jerry Savoie (6.82) vs #16 Angie Smith (6.96), #2 Eddie Krawic (6.82) vs #15 Shawn Gann (6.95), #3 Hector Arana Jr (6.85) vs #14 Freddie Camarena (6.91), #4 Andrew Hines (6.85) vs #13 Cory Reed (6.91), #5 Angelle Sampey (6.85) vs #12 Scotty Pollacheck (6.90), #6 Chip Ellis (6.86) vs #11 LE Tonglet (6.89), #7 Hector Arana (6.87) vs #10 Matt Smith (6.88), and #8 Steve Johnson (6.87) vs #9 Melissa Surber (6.87). The winners and who they would face in the second round were Jerry Savoie (6.87) and Steve Johnson (6.93), Andrew Hines (6.88) and Angelle Sampey (6.88), Eddie Krawic (6.85) and Matt Smith (6.91) and Hector Arana Jr (6.89) and Chip Ellis (6.86). The semifinals were Jerry Savoie (6.89) vs Angelle Sampey (6.87) and Matt Smith (6.90) vs Hector Arana Jr (6.94). The finals featured Angelle Sampey (6.90) and the Star Racing team and Matt Smith (6.94) and the Victory Gunner team. With the winner being Matt Smith (8.04). This is Matt’s first win of the season and first win in three years.

Important Notes:

Morgan Lucas announced on Friday that the Lucas family would be shutting down their racing team.

Greg Anderson won both Pomona races this season. The final win total for KB Racing was Jason Line: 8 Greg Anderson: 8
