Hi everyone,
Recently I was looking through old photos and came across some from Seafair 2012. If you’re unfamiliar, Seafair is a Pacific Northwest tradition, this year is the 67th year. It’s a weekend of hydroplane racing and an airshow on Lake Washington in Seattle, Washington. I’ve been going to Seafair since I was very little and it’s definitely where my love for airplanes came from. The main event of the airshow is Fat Albert and the US Navy Blue Angels. The Blues are one of the absolute best demonstration teams and have a special place in my heart. I will leave links to all of their info below and if you have a chance to see them perform you definitely should :).
So, going back to 2012 and starting with Fat Albert, the pilots were; Capt Benjamin Blanton, USMC, Capt John Hecker, USMC, and Capt A.J. Harrell, USMC. For anyone wondering, the Blue Angels are a Navy and Marine Corp operation. Moving on to the Blues, the delta consisted of, in the #1 jet, Boss, Capt Greg McWherter, USN, #2, Right Wing, LT John Hiltz, USN, #3, Left Wing, Capt Brandon Cordill, USMC, #4, Slot, Maj Brent Stevens, USMC, #5, Lead Solo, LT C.J. Simonsen, USN, and #6, Opposing Solo, LT David Tickle, USN.
These pictures are from Thursday August 2, 2012. I went with my brother and we hung out, watched them fly and had a really fun day. Thursday is the day the Blue Angels fly around at two different times for practice and finding their spots and landmarks for the shows. Usually Fat Albert doesn’t fly on Thursdays, but he did that time and it was so cool. His high speed pass was crazy and seeing that massive C-130 land was insane. There is a rule at Boeing Field that unless you’re a photographer and have credentials you have to stay behind and below the fence, so some of these pictures have the fence in them.
That about wraps it up for this post. There were two videos that I wanted to add, so I put them on YouTube and if you want to see those my channel name is Kyra Sage. If you ever get the chance to see the Blue Angels perform I hope you enjoy it and I highly recommend coming to Seafair, it’s a very exciting and fun filled weekend. This year it’s August 6th and 7th and if you’re in town on Thursday look up between 9:45 am to 12:00 pm and 1:15pm to 2:40 pm because they’ll be practicing.
Until next time, enjoy your weekend and I hope you have a chance to see the Blue Angels perform :).
